This
favorite dramatic play song is perfect for a wiggly day! Tell half of
the children they are cats, and the other half are mice. Define an
area for the “house,” using a carpet, four chairs, or other physical
objects. Instruct the cats to stay in the house. They follow the
directions in the song, letting the mice creep in around them while
they are asleep. When they wake up, they can chase the mice, but only
as far as the “house” walls. Children will want to do this over and
over, changing parts.
It’s an especially simple song for guitar or autoharp (only two
chords!), so be sure to print out the sheet music if you want to play
along!
